Thomas Jefferson Quotes about Books

Hosted by Barbara at Candy Hearts and Paper Flowers
  • I cannot live without books.
  • The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers.
  • I had rather be shut up in a very modest cottage, with my books, my family, and a few old friends, dining on simple bacon, and letting the world roll on as it liked, than to occupy the most splendid post which any human power can give.

The third is certainly interesting for a man who was president. I wonder if he said that before or after he was elected. I can totally relate to the first ;)

Great quotes! I too wonder about the third one. And hey, I'd love to be shut up in a very modest cottage - that is my dream house! :)

From what I can find the 3rd quote is from 1788 and he was elected as President in 1800.
